DOT (Design Online Talks) took place on Friday, October 24th, 2025, via Zoom. Titled First Steps to Become a Merch Artist, the session explored how to start in the merch design industry. It covered early challenges and practical first steps.

Two young merch artists, Vincent Anthony and Kelvin, shared their journeys. They talked about their experiences, insights, and tips for navigating the creative industry. Participants gained a clearer view of the merch design process. They also learned the mindset needed to grow in the field.

Alumni Sharing: Daniel Purnama

Daniel Purnama, an alumnus of the Animation concentration class of 2013, shared his experience as a freelance concept artist and illustrator. During the online meeting, Daniel discussed how he manages projects with clients as an animation graduate in the ‘Film Management’ course for the Animation concentration.

Daniel shared about what freelance work entails, as well as the pros and cons of working as a freelancer. He elaborated on his working process, including how he manages and communicates with his clients. He also shared how he works and manages his day-to-day activities as a freelance illustrator. Daniel highlighted the importance of using references to ensure clear communication with clients and also emphasized the importance of expanding one’s skills by adapting to various styles and genres.

VCD UPH Student Exchange Orientation

On Monday, January 8, 2024, an online orientation for VCD UPH was conducted for exchange students from Multimedia Nusantara University. In this orientation, 10 UMN students were welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty of Design and the Head of the Visual Communication Design Program at Pelita Harapan University. In addition to introducing VCD UPH, the meeting explained the learning processes that will take place at UPH. May the exchange program run smoothly this semester. Happy learning.
