Guest Lecture in DKV UPH: Ardhira Putra

On June 18, 2026, students from the Indonesian Visual Culture and Design Management courses attended a guest lecture featuring Ardhira Anugrah Putra, an award-winning illustrator, graphic designer, and motion designer with international recognition. Throughout his career, Ardhira has collaborated with many global brands, artists, and creative companies across different industries. The session gave students valuable insights into his creative journey, professional experiences, and approach to building a sustainable career in the creative industry.

Turning Passion into a Creative Career

The session began with Ardhira sharing his journey after graduating from university. He explained that he started his career as a UI/UX designer before gradually pursuing illustration as a personal creative practice. Rather than waiting for commercial opportunities, he consistently created artwork inspired by the things he genuinely loved. His influences included retro video games, Japanese city pop, classic game consoles, and pop culture.

Over time, his distinctive visual style attracted attention from the creative community. Personal projects gradually opened the door to professional opportunities as more people discovered his work and recommended him to others. As his network grew, so did his experience. These opportunities eventually led him to international collaborations, industry awards, and recognition for his creative work.

Building a Personal Style and Professional Practice

During the guest lecture, Ardhira emphasized the importance of developing a unique creative identity. His work spans illustration, vector graphics, 3D design, and motion graphics. Even so, he continues to maintain a consistent visual style shaped by his personal interests and influences.

Instead of accepting every project, Ardhira carefully selects work that aligns with his creative direction. Likewise, many clients approach him because they appreciate his distinctive style. His experiences showed students that authenticity and consistency can create long-term opportunities in the creative industry.

Beyond discussing technical skills, Ardhira also spoke about professionalism. He highlighted the importance of communication, collaboration, and building trust with clients throughout every project.

Following the presentation, students participated in an interactive question-and-answer session with Ardhira. They asked about project management, client communication, time management, organizing design files, and maintaining a healthy creative workflow.

The discussion also explored the growing role of artificial intelligence in the creative industry. Ardhira encouraged students to see AI as a tool that supports creativity rather than replacing it. At the same time, he emphasized that original ideas, personal perspectives, and distinctive visual styles remain valuable qualities for every designer.

Students left the session with practical insights into professional creative practice. More importantly, they were encouraged to keep developing their own creative voice while remaining adaptable in a constantly changing industry.

As part of UPH Career Day 2026, students from the Faculty of Design, Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH), attended an inspiring sharing session featuring DKV UPH alumni Yehezkiel Penalosa and Alvin Darmawan, founders of Rise Studio ID. Moderated by Alfiansyah Zulkarnain, S.Sn., M.Ds., the session explored the studio’s creative journey and professional experiences. The speakers also discussed the production of the Faculty of Design’s new Company Profile Video, created to introduce the faculty’s renewed vision and mission for the 2026-2030 period.

Bringing a New Vision to Life

The session began with a screening of the Faculty of Design’s latest Company Profile Video, produced by Rise Studio ID. Through cinematic visuals and purposeful storytelling, the video introduced the faculty’s renewed vision for 2026-2030. It emphasized that true knowledge is rooted in God and that creativity reflects His character.

Beyond presenting the faculty’s identity, the video highlighted its commitment to preparing creative leaders for the future. It showcased graduates who embrace collaboration, innovation, sustainability, and emerging technologies. At the same time, it reinforced the importance of creating meaningful social impact through design.

The Creative Process Behind the Project

After the screening, Yehezkiel Penalosa and Alvin Darmawan shared the creative process behind the project. They explained how Rise Studio ID translated the Faculty of Design’s renewed vision and mission into a compelling visual story. Every creative decision, from concept development to cinematography, supported the faculty’s new direction and identity.

The speakers also reflected on their experiences as founders of Rise Studio ID. They discussed the importance of understanding client objectives before developing creative ideas. Furthermore, they emphasized clear communication, strong collaboration, and continuous refinement throughout every stage of production. According to them, these elements are essential for delivering work that is both visually engaging and strategically effective.

In addition, Yehezkiel and Alvin presented several projects from the Rise Studio ID portfolio. Their work demonstrated a wide range of approaches to branding, filmmaking, and visual storytelling. As a result, students gained a broader understanding of career opportunities within the creative industry after graduation.

Studio Visit: DKV UPH goes to EGGHEAD

On June 18, 2026, students enrolled in the Design Management course visited EGGHEAD, a branding agency with more than 13 years of experience in helping businesses build meaningful brands. The studio visit formed part of the course’s learning activities. Through this experience, students gained direct exposure to the creative industry and learned how branding agencies develop strategies, identities, and brand experiences for their clients.

Understanding Branding Beyond Visual Identity

The visit began with an introduction to EGGHEAD and its branding philosophy. Guided by the principle “Where Brand Makes a Difference,” the team explained that branding goes far beyond creating visual identities. Instead, it serves as a strategic tool that helps businesses build meaningful relationships with their audiences.

Through presentations and real project case studies, students explored the agency’s branding process from start to finish. They learned how EGGHEAD conducts brand audits, develops brand strategies, creates visual identities, and applies them across different media and customer touchpoints.

Learning from Industry Practice

In addition to explaining their workflow, the EGGHEAD team shared insights into the role of design in shaping customer experiences and building long-term brand value. They also discussed how the branding industry continues to evolve alongside changing market needs and new technologies.

Furthermore, the speakers highlighted the challenges and opportunities that creative professionals encounter in today’s industry. Their experiences helped students understand how strategic thinking and creativity work together to solve real business problems.

Rather than seeing AI as a replacement for creativity, Linda encouraged students to view it as a supportive tool. According to her, AI can help generate ideas, improve efficiency, and allow designers to focus on strategic and creative thinking. As a result, students were encouraged to approach technological change with confidence while maintaining critical thinking.

Meanwhile, Rafael shared perspectives from the field of product design. His experiences demonstrated how emerging technologies continue to influence innovation, user experience, and product development. Together, both speakers showed that adapting to change is an essential part of every designer’s professional journey.

On June 11, 2026, students enrolled in the Design Management course visited Kelly’s Co., a creative studio specializing in illustration and Intellectual Property (IP) development. The studio visit formed part of the course’s learning activities. Through this experience, students gained direct exposure to the creative industry and discovered how illustration-based businesses grow from original ideas into successful brands.

The visit began with an introduction to Kelly’s Co. and its creative journey. The team shared the studio’s background, creative philosophy, and portfolio of work. Students learned how Kelly’s Co. transforms original illustrations and characters into recognizable Intellectual Property with long-term commercial value.

Through presentations and real project case studies, the speakers explained each stage of their creative process. They discussed character development, visual identity, brand consistency, and product development. As a result, students gained a better understanding of how creative ideas evolve into sustainable businesses.

Beyond showcasing their projects, the Kelly’s Co. team discussed the opportunities and challenges of building Intellectual Property in today’s creative industry. Students also explored Kelly’s Co.’s merchandise and product displays. This experience demonstrated how original illustration-based Intellectual Property can grow beyond digital artwork into products, brand experiences, and new business opportunities.s.

DKV UPH Study Tour 2026 : Bandung

The Study Tour Bandung 2026 was held from June 2–5, 2026, involving Visual Communication Design students from Universitas Pelita Harapan, Class of 2025. The program aimed to broaden students’ understanding of art, design, culture, and history through direct engagement with Bandung’s creative landscape.

Throughout the four-day journey, students visited cultural destinations, galleries, creative spaces, and workshops. As a result, they gained firsthand experience of how art, design, and local heritage continue to shape contemporary society.

The first day began with an exploration of Braga Street, one of Bandung’s most iconic historical districts. Surrounded by preserved colonial architecture and vibrant creative spaces, students observed how history and contemporary culture coexist within the city.

During the visit, the group explored Grey Art Gallery and enjoyed a special exhibition dedicated to PERSIB. The exhibition highlighted the cultural significance and history of one of Indonesia’s most beloved football clubs.

Afterward, students continued the journey aboard Bandros (Bandung Tour on Bus). During the 45-minute tour, they were introduced to various historical and cultural landmarks across the city. Among the sites discussed were Penjara Banceuy, Indonesia Menggugat, and several other important locations that played a role in Bandung’s historical development.

Through this experience, students developed a deeper appreciation of Bandung’s cultural identity and historical significance.

On the second day, students visited two sites closely associated with renowned Indonesian artist Sunaryo: Selasar Sunaryo Art Space and Wot Batu. Guided tours provided insight into Sunaryo’s artistic philosophy, creative process, and the meaning behind many of his installations.

In addition, students were encouraged to reflect on the relationship between art, nature, space, and human experience. By observing the works directly, they gained a better understanding of how artistic concepts can be translated into physical environments.

Later in the day, the group visited Saung Angklung Udjo, one of Bandung’s most celebrated cultural destinations. There, students enjoyed a series of traditional performances featuring Indonesian music, dance, and cultural heritage.

Furthermore, they participated in a special angklung-making workshop. This hands-on activity introduced students to the craftsmanship behind Indonesia’s traditional bamboo instrument while also highlighting its cultural importance.

The third day focused on practical learning experiences through a series of creative workshops.

The first destination was Batik Komar, where students learned about the history and development of Indonesian batik. They then participated in both Batik Cap and Batik Tulis workshops, creating their own designs while exploring traditional production techniques.

Through this activity, students gained a greater appreciation for the craftsmanship, patience, and attention to detail required in batik-making.

The workshop experience continued at NuArt Sculpture Park, home to the works of renowned Indonesian sculptor I Nyoman Nuarta. During the visit, students joined a guided tour of the sculpture park and explored several exhibitions within the complex.

Additionally, they watched documentary screenings that provided insight into Nuarta’s artistic journey and major projects. The visit concluded with a clay-making short course, allowing students to experiment with three-dimensional form and create their own sculptural works.

Following three days of exploration, learning, and creative activities, the study tour concluded on the fourth day as students prepared for their return to Universitas Pelita Harapan.

Before departing Bandung, many students had the opportunity to purchase local souvenirs and reflect on the experiences gained throughout the program. Beyond the destinations visited, the trip offered valuable opportunities for observation, discussion, and creative inspiration.

Creative X Technology – Level Up Your Future

Creative X Technology Event Series was held on Friday, May 23rd, 2026, as an offline session at UPH Building B, Room B301. The talk, titled Level Up Your Future: Game & AI for Next-Gen Students, explored the intersection of gaming, artificial intelligence, and emerging opportunities for students in the evolving digital landscape.

The session featured Kusno Prasetya, Ph.D., from the Information Systems Department of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence and Data Sciences, and Naldo Yanuar Heryanto, S.Sn., M.T., from the Visual Communication Design Department of the Faculty of Design. The speakers shared their perspectives on the development of game technology, the growing role of AI, and how students can prepare themselves for future creative and technological industries.

Participants gained valuable insights into industry trends, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the importance of combining creativity, critical thinking, and technological adaptability in shaping future careers. The discussion also encouraged students to explore new possibilities within the rapidly evolving digital ecosystem.

MBKM with Sungkyunkwan University

The K-Content Storytelling Program, a collaborative MBKM initiative with Sungkyunkwan University, was held over one semester, including an intensive five-week onsite session at Universitas Pelita Harapan. The program aimed to introduce students to the fundamentals of storytelling within the context of Korean content and global media practices.

Before the main program began, the visiting professors also held a special session on Korean Content Culture. During this session, students explored how Korean media has grown into a global influence. They discussed key trends, audience behavior, and storytelling approaches that shape popular content today. As a result, students gained a stronger foundation before entering the intensive classes.

The program featured three main classes: From Pororo to Tayo: Inside the Creative Engine of K-Animation, Frame and Shot, Directing Actors, and Understanding Media and Content. Each class focused on different aspects of storytelling and production. Together, they provided a comprehensive learning experience that connected theory with practice.

The sessions were led by Lee Jun Hee, Lee Woo Jin, and Yong Yoon Ah. They guided students through lectures, case studies, and discussions. In addition, they shared real industry insights and personal experiences. Because of this, students could better understand how ideas develop into meaningful content across different media formats.

Throughout the five-week intensive period, students actively participated in discussions and creative exercises. They explored storytelling techniques, visual direction, and content development strategies. Moreover, the program encouraged collaboration and critical thinking, which helped students refine their creative perspectives.

After the intensive session ended, the program concluded with a closing ceremony. During this moment, the professors received tokens of appreciation for their contributions. The atmosphere felt warm and joyful, as students and lecturers shared documentation photos and heartfelt hugs.

SPOT 2 – Celebration of Gratitude

SPOT 2 (Spaces, Peoples, Opportunities, Talks) took place on Saturday, December 6th, 2025, at Universitas Pelita Harapan. This event highlighted a meaningful DKV UPH alumni gathering, where alumni came together to reconnect and celebrate their shared journey. The theme, Celebration of Gratitude, set a warm and welcoming tone for the entire event.

During the event, alumni from different batches arrived with excitement and curiosity. Some even brought their families, which added a more personal and heartfelt atmosphere. As people reconnected, they shared stories, memories, and experiences from their time at DKV UPH. In addition, the event created a space where past and present communities could meet and interact.

The DKV UPH alumni gathering also featured a range of interactive activities. For example, attendees explored a student artwork exhibition that showcased current creative works. Meanwhile, the Doodlebox photobooth allowed guests to capture fun and memorable moments. There was also a Shrink Paper Keychain booth, where participants could create personalized keepsakes. As a result, the event felt lively, creative, and engaging for everyone involved.

Moreover, the event helped strengthen connections within the DKV UPH network. Alumni not only reconnected with old friends but also built new relationships. This interaction encouraged collaboration and continued engagement within the creative community. Therefore, the gathering became more than just a reunion. It also became a platform for growth and shared inspiration.

DOT 2 – Exploring Doodle Art

DOT 2 (Design Online Talks) took place on Friday, November 28th, 2025, as an online session. The talk, titled Exploring Doodle Art: Cook a Doodle into Doodlicious, focused on doodle art fundamentals. It introduced participants to the basics of doodling, including simple forms, patterns, and creative techniques. In addition, the session highlighted how doodles can grow into more expressive and meaningful visual works.

During the event, Pipin Budilou led a live demonstration and sharing session. He showed step-by-step methods to develop doodles, starting from basic shapes and lines. Then, he demonstrated how to combine these elements into more complex and engaging compositions. As a result, participants gained a clearer understanding of how to approach doodle art in a structured yet playful way.

Moreover, Pipin shared insights into his creative process. He explained how consistency, experimentation, and observation play key roles in developing a personal visual style. He also encouraged participants to explore freely and not be afraid of making mistakes. This approach helped participants see doodling not only as a technique, but also as a form of creative expression.
