UPH Design Week 2026 Career Day : DKV UPH

As part of UPH Design Week 2026, students and participants attended a special talk session titled “Design x AI: Interaction.” The session featured Linda Lianto, a DKV UPH alumna, and Rafael Benaya, an alumnus of Product Design UPH. Moderated by Kartika Magdalena Suwanto, S.Ds., M.Ds., the discussion explored how artificial intelligence is changing design practice and shaping the future of the creative industry.

Exploring the Relationship Between Design and AI

The session began with a discussion about the rapid growth of technology and its influence on the design profession. Drawing from their professional experiences, Linda and Rafael explained how the industry has evolved over the years. They also discussed how artificial intelligence has become a widely accessible tool for designers.

Participants gained valuable insights into how designers continue to adapt to these changes. In addition, the speakers encouraged students to stay curious and keep learning in an industry that continues to evolve.

Learning from Industry Experience

One of the highlights of the session was Linda’s reflection on her journey after graduating from DKV UPH. She described her experience entering the creative industry before AI became part of everyday workflows. She also explained how designers gradually adapted as new technologies emerged.

Rather than seeing AI as a replacement for creativity, Linda encouraged students to view it as a supportive tool. According to her, AI can help generate ideas, improve efficiency, and allow designers to focus on strategic and creative thinking. As a result, students were encouraged to approach technological change with confidence while maintaining critical thinking.

Meanwhile, Rafael shared perspectives from the field of product design. His experiences demonstrated how emerging technologies continue to influence innovation, user experience, and product development. Together, both speakers showed that adapting to change is an essential part of every designer’s professional journey.

Interactive Discussion and Q&A

Following the presentation, participants joined an interactive question-and-answer session moderated by Kartika Magdalena Suwanto, S.Ds., M.Ds. The discussion covered a wide range of topics, including future career opportunities in design, the challenges and benefits of AI, and the skills young designers should continue developing.

Furthermore, the speakers encouraged students to look beyond technical abilities alone. Creativity, empathy, critical thinking, and human-centered problem solving remain essential as technology becomes increasingly integrated into professional practice. These qualities will continue to help designers create meaningful solutions in an ever-changing industry.

Studio Visit: DKV UPH goes to Kelly’s and Co.

On June 11, 2026, students enrolled in the Design Management course visited Kelly’s Co., a creative studio specializing in illustration and Intellectual Property (IP) development. The studio visit formed part of the course’s learning activities. Through this experience, students gained direct exposure to the creative industry and discovered how illustration-based businesses grow from original ideas into successful brands.

The visit began with an introduction to Kelly’s Co. and its creative journey. The team shared the studio’s background, creative philosophy, and portfolio of work. Students learned how Kelly’s Co. transforms original illustrations and characters into recognizable Intellectual Property with long-term commercial value.

Through presentations and real project case studies, the speakers explained each stage of their creative process. They discussed character development, visual identity, brand consistency, and product development. As a result, students gained a better understanding of how creative ideas evolve into sustainable businesses.

Learning from Industry Experience

Beyond showcasing their projects, the Kelly’s Co. team discussed the opportunities and challenges of building Intellectual Property in today’s creative industry. They explained that creating successful IP requires more than artistic ability. Strong branding, business strategy, and consistency also play an important role.

Furthermore, the speakers encouraged students to develop a distinctive creative identity while remaining open to collaboration and new opportunities. Their experiences demonstrated how passion, persistence, and strategic thinking can help creative professionals build lasting careers.

Following the presentation, students joined an interactive question-and-answer session with the Kelly’s Co. team. They asked about project management, client relationships, business development, creative workflows, and the realities of working in a professional studio.

The discussion gave students practical insights into everyday creative practice. In addition, they learned how studios balance artistic vision with business goals while continuing to develop original Intellectual Property.

The visit concluded with a guided office tour, giving students the opportunity to experience Kelly’s Co.’s creative workspace firsthand. They observed the studio’s working environment and learned more about its collaborative culture.

Students also explored Kelly’s Co.’s merchandise and product displays. This experience demonstrated how original illustration-based Intellectual Property can grow beyond digital artwork into products, brand experiences, and new business opportunities.s.

Overall, the studio visit broadened students’ understanding of illustration, branding, and Intellectual Property development. More importantly, it showed how creativity and business strategy can work together to build meaningful and sustainable brands.

DKV UPH Study Tour 2026 : Bandung

The Study Tour Bandung 2026 was held from June 2–5, 2026, involving Visual Communication Design students from Universitas Pelita Harapan, Class of 2025. The program aimed to broaden students’ understanding of art, design, culture, and history through direct engagement with Bandung’s creative landscape.

Throughout the four-day journey, students visited cultural destinations, galleries, creative spaces, and workshops. As a result, they gained firsthand experience of how art, design, and local heritage continue to shape contemporary society.

The first day began with an exploration of Braga Street, one of Bandung’s most iconic historical districts. Surrounded by preserved colonial architecture and vibrant creative spaces, students observed how history and contemporary culture coexist within the city.

During the visit, the group explored Grey Art Gallery and enjoyed a special exhibition dedicated to PERSIB. The exhibition highlighted the cultural significance and history of one of Indonesia’s most beloved football clubs.

Afterward, students continued the journey aboard Bandros (Bandung Tour on Bus). During the 45-minute tour, they were introduced to various historical and cultural landmarks across the city. Among the sites discussed were Penjara Banceuy, Indonesia Menggugat, and several other important locations that played a role in Bandung’s historical development.

Through this experience, students developed a deeper appreciation of Bandung’s cultural identity and historical significance.

On the second day, students visited two sites closely associated with renowned Indonesian artist Sunaryo: Selasar Sunaryo Art Space and Wot Batu. Guided tours provided insight into Sunaryo’s artistic philosophy, creative process, and the meaning behind many of his installations.

In addition, students were encouraged to reflect on the relationship between art, nature, space, and human experience. By observing the works directly, they gained a better understanding of how artistic concepts can be translated into physical environments.

Later in the day, the group visited Saung Angklung Udjo, one of Bandung’s most celebrated cultural destinations. There, students enjoyed a series of traditional performances featuring Indonesian music, dance, and cultural heritage.

Furthermore, they participated in a special angklung-making workshop. This hands-on activity introduced students to the craftsmanship behind Indonesia’s traditional bamboo instrument while also highlighting its cultural importance.

The third day focused on practical learning experiences through a series of creative workshops.

The first destination was Batik Komar, where students learned about the history and development of Indonesian batik. They then participated in both Batik Cap and Batik Tulis workshops, creating their own designs while exploring traditional production techniques.

Through this activity, students gained a greater appreciation for the craftsmanship, patience, and attention to detail required in batik-making.

The workshop experience continued at NuArt Sculpture Park, home to the works of renowned Indonesian sculptor I Nyoman Nuarta. During the visit, students joined a guided tour of the sculpture park and explored several exhibitions within the complex.

Additionally, they watched documentary screenings that provided insight into Nuarta’s artistic journey and major projects. The visit concluded with a clay-making short course, allowing students to experiment with three-dimensional form and create their own sculptural works.

Following three days of exploration, learning, and creative activities, the study tour concluded on the fourth day as students prepared for their return to Universitas Pelita Harapan.

Before departing Bandung, many students had the opportunity to purchase local souvenirs and reflect on the experiences gained throughout the program. Beyond the destinations visited, the trip offered valuable opportunities for observation, discussion, and creative inspiration.

REFORMA 2

REFORMA 2026 Design Exhibition took place on March 7th–8th, 2026, at Townhall Indonesia Design District. As the main highlight of a series of pre-events, the REFORMA 2026 Design Exhibition carried the theme Design as Dialogue. It invited participants to explore design as a form of interaction between ideas, people, and possibilities.

The REFORMA 2026 Design Exhibition featured a wide range of programs. These included design competitions, seminars, talkshows, workshops, an art market, and curated exhibitions. As a result, the event showcased the creativity and innovation of students and emerging creators. In addition, visitors experienced diverse forms of visual and creative expression throughout the venue.

Insightful sessions were delivered by speakers such as Melvin Christian, Raymond Ahari, Abraham Brian Wijaya, Sulaiman Said, Claudia Novreica, and Denny Ertanto. They shared knowledge across graphic design, film, digital art, and visual effects. Moreover, these sessions provided practical insights into the evolving creative industry.

Furthermore, the event included interactive workshops in collaboration with industry partners. Participants explored hands-on activities and creative techniques. At the same time, the art market brought together local creators who showcased illustrations, crafts, and unique merchandise. Because of this, the exhibition created a lively and engaging environment for all visitors.

Overall, the REFORMA 2026 Design Exhibition created a dynamic space for learning and collaboration. Participants from different backgrounds connected, shared ideas, and explored new possibilities. Therefore, the event became more than an exhibition. It became a platform for creative dialogue and exchange.

Focal Point 2

VCD UPH Presents Focal Point 2 Photography Exhibition. This exhibition is held in Peluita Hall, Universitas Pelita Harapan from August 12 to August 30. Similar to the first Focal Point, the exhibition showcases works from the VCD students in their first year photography courses. Focal Point 2 also hosts a seminar and photography demo by renowned food photographer, Christo Tjandra.

Hello, I’m Agnes Hernadi, an alumna of UPH with a concentration in Cinematography, graduating in 2022. I currently work as a creative producer at a media company while also pursuing my passion for filmmaking through a short film project.

Initially enrolled in the graphic design concentration, I switched to cinematography after discovering my passion through various assignments and discussions with mentors. Throughout my academic journey, I found my enthusiasm in producing and directing films.

With guidance from our lecturers, I and my peers seized film funding opportunities, allowing us to actualize a short film project. This experience taught me valuable lessons in project management, networking, and balancing university work with indie film production.

I highly recommend Universitas Pelita Harapan for its enriching educational experience, excellent facilities, and supportive lecturers. My time at UPH prepared me well for my journey after college, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have studied there.

Dear UPH Community, 

As announced before, by the grace of our blessed Triune God, UPH has achieved EXCELLENT (“UNGGUL”) accreditation in December 2023. This is really a great milestone and something to be thankful for in the history of our beloved Christ-centered university. So, in our first Wednesday Chapel this year, 10 January 2024, there will be a public announcement and submission of Decision Letter (SK) UPH Unggul, and concluded with prayer of thanksgiving. 

Because of this, just for this week, 10 January 2024, we will begin our Wednesday chapel, at 07.00 am, SHARP. So, please attend the chapel on time.
