On Thursday, September 9, 2023, Universitas Pelita Harapan College (UPHC) organized a University & Career Day event aimed at helping its students prepare for choosing their future study programs and universities. One of the study programs featured in the exhibition was VCD UPH.
VCD UPH hosted an exhibition showcasing their final projects and specializations. During the event, many UPHC students showed enthusiasm and asked questions to learn more about VCD UPH.
We, from VCD UPH, express our gratitude for the opportunity provided by UPHC to come and share information about our study program. We hope that many UPHC students will be interested in joining VCD UPH to pursue studies in visual communication design.
The “Introduction to UPH Animation Convention” (AICON) took place at Universitas Pelita Harapan and featured an enthralling Coswalk competition that captivated attendees. With esteemed judges Yagaichi (also known as Alianisha Krishtalia) and Monica Veralda presiding, the event saw a total of 30 enthusiastic participants immerse themselves in the world of cosplay. An engaged audience of 20 excited spectators added to the dynamic atmosphere, creating an environment of energy and anticipation.
Against this backdrop, participants channeled their favorite characters, delivering impressive performances that truly brought these characters to life. After careful deliberation, the victors emerged: Rika, 20 years old, claimed the first-place spot with her portrayal of Sophie Hatter from “Howl’s Moving Castle”; 13-year-old Anezka Evtonia secured second place with her portrayal of Boa Hancock from “One Piece”; and the youngest contestant, 6-year-old Kirana Almiera, took third place with her portrayal of Cygnus Hyoga from “Saint Seiya.”
In addition to these winners, the event also recognized the following “Juara Favorit” (Audience Favorites): Anastasya Luchsinger, Erik Erlando, and Jocelyn Josdoan. Their outstanding cosplays resonated with the audience, showcasing their creativity and dedication to their chosen characters.
This event not only celebrated the creativity and dedication of the cosplayers but also showcased the diverse array of characters cherished by animation enthusiasts. Held at Universitas Pelita Harapan, the success of the Coswalk competition at AICON served as a testament to the animation community’s spirit and left an indelible mark on participants and attendees alike.

The exhibition and photography seminar for the students of Visual Communication Design (DKV) UPH 2023 carries the theme “FOCAL POINT.”
In the realm of photography, “Focal Point” refers to the main point of focus in a photographic work. The focal point is the primary subject that a photographer emphasizes to capture the observer’s attention. The focal point functions as a gateway for the observer into the story. The object that becomes the focal point becomes the main interpretation of the work. Hence, the quality of a focal point can determine the success of a piece of work, specifically whether it effectively communicates and impacts its observer. Without a focal point, an observer might struggle to identify the compelling elements in a photo, thereby impeding the interpretation process and resulting in a monotonous impression.
Through the photography exhibition titled ‘Focal Point,’ the students of DKV UPH are provided with the opportunity to showcase their skills and development over a year of learning. The exhibition will demonstrate the students’ understanding after being equipped with knowledge about photography techniques, composition, and photo processing using supporting software. Furthermore, the term ‘focal point’ also refers to the subject theme of the photos to be displayed, such as product photos and model photos.
